Running is fun and that is why we highly recommend the activity. However, you should always listen to your body. Perhaps, you need to take a rest from running. Otherwise, you might suffer from injuries and other serious health concerns. In this post, we will share with you some of the common signs you have to watch out for. It’s not bad to rest for a couple of days. What’s not good is to overdo your body. 

You Get Sick 

Obviously, you need to take a rest from running if you feel ill. If you overtrain, you are also compromising your immune system and you are more susceptible to getting sick. 

You Cannot Sleep

If you must know, feeling tired and having a hard time sleeping is a sign that you are overtraining. This is because your central nervous system overworks as they try to heal your muscles. If you push yourself too hard, you will see that your performance will decrease. If you are training for a long run or marathon, this would not be ideal. 

You Are Always In A Bad Mood 

Most people will say that running can improve your mood. The same goes if you try to do other physical exercises. However, when you run too much, it will have the opposite effect. Instead of being happy, you tend to get cranky. If you don’t stop and you continue your routine, it can even lead to depression.  

You Have Low Energy For The Day 

Aside from having a bad mood, one red flag or a sign that you have to rest is if you feel exhausted the entire day. Excessive running can be both physically and mentally draining, and you have to watch out for it. 

You Always Get Injured 

Another sign that you have to rest from running is if you always hurt yourself. Of course, we cannot say that injuries are always unavoidable. However, if it becomes a recurring issue, then you might want to pause for a while, and give yourself a break. 

You Start Having Stomach Issues 

Try to see if you start changing your bathroom habits. In some cases, heavy running can affect your digestive system. 

You Stop Improving 

You also have to observe yourself. Do you think you’ve reached a plateau? If yes, then you have to take a step back and rest. When you keep on running, you are not giving your body a chance to heal. Thus, you don’t get stronger.

If you have a goal and you keep on missing it, that’s a clear sign that you are not doing so well. Again, take a rest. 

Generally, you have to give yourself a day or two per week to recover. But there is no hard and fast rule on this. Again, you owe your body to rest. Overdoing anything, even exercising, can cause you more danger. If you want to improve, and if you want to get stronger, we say go for a rest and then get back on your feet when you are ready.
