The whole world is alarmed because of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID – 19. While it is always good to share information, it’s a different story when people share rumors. It creates fear and panic, both of which are not helpful in times like this. So we’ve decided to write a brief post about the virus. That way, even those who are not too familiar with it are informed with the necessary knowledge to protect themselves.
How to Protect Yourself
Right now, the adage prevention is better than cure should be strongly enforced. We need to exert effort not to be infected in the first place. Here are some of the ways to protect yourself from the virus.
Know the signs and symptoms of the disease
If you experience fever, cough, or shortness of breath, you might want to seek medical help just to be sure that you are not infected by the virus. Also, if you have been near someone who has the virus or you’ve been in the area where there is a spread of COVID – 19, it would be best to have yourself checked.
Wash your hands
Make it a habit to wash your hands. This is most recommended after you blow your nose or after you sneeze. Of course, don’t forget to wash your hands after using the bathroom and before you prepare your meal. Do it thoroughly for at least 20 seconds.
Avoid touching your nose, mouth, and eyes
If you haven’t washed your hands just yet, please do not touch the body parts we mentioned above. Remember that your hands can transfer the virus through your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Stay at home
As much as we love to go outdoors, it would be best if you stay at home and just go out if necessary. Also, do not go to work if you are sick. We understand that you have a lot of reports to finish but obviously, health is more important.
Cover your mouth
And when you cough or sneeze, please cover your mouth with a tissue. Don’t forget to dispose of it properly to stop spreading germs.
Keep a healthy distance
If someone is sneezing or coughing, then you have to make sure you are at least three feet away from them.
Change to a healthier lifestyle
It’s about time that you revise your lifestyle and assess if you are living healthily. Are you exercising regularly? Do you eat healthy meals? Do you try to manage your stress? Are you mentally fit? All these things are important in building a strong immune system.
Get your facts straight from credible sources
Social media is too powerful and other people use it for the wrong reasons. We’ve read a lot of fake news about the disease and how it ‘affected’ certain parts of the globe. But again, such is not helping anyone. If you want real updates, then always check trusted sources like WHO or the big news outlets.
While we are all waiting for a solution to this problem, what we can do is raise proper awareness and boost our health.
