Tips on how you can be an improved runner

Make sure to do strength training

A good runner has a strong core. You might want to devote 10 minutes of your time doing planks, squats, lunges, and even pushups. You might not see its effects right away, but just be patient and you’d reap the rewards of strength training to your running performance.

Get enough sleep

For obvious reasons, not getting enough sleep will affect how you run. In order to avoid such, make sure you establish a sleeping habit. What time do you need to get up and run? From there, count backwards and set your alarm. With this, you have a cue that it is already your bedtime. Say goodbye to late night outs for now.

Always hydrate

It is important that you drink enough water if you want to have a better performance. If you are dehydrated, your blood gets thicker and it will require your heart to work harder. While running and you feel the need to drink, go ahead and grab a bottle.¬†Don’t overdo it though as it can lead to discomfort.

Don’t push it too hard

You might want to run faster than before but it doesn’t mean that you have to push yourself too hard! If you do, you might encounter injuries which can even slow down your pace. Take it easy and be patient. Just be consistent and you will eventually improve speed and your distance as well.

Schedule your runs

Other people are not consistent when it comes to running because they do not prioritize it. They fill their schedules with a lot of activities and they just ‘squeeze’ running whenever they have time. That should not be the case. If you want to be a better runner, make sure to include running into your schedule. Use your planner or your calendar and stick to it as much as you can.

What shoes are you wearing?

Are your shoes still good for running? If you don’t know the answer, then it is time to check your pair. Usually, you have to change your shoes when it reached 300 miles. It is not ideal that you wear it for several years. Just try to imagine a worn out tire of a car. It wouldn’t perform great. Would it? In fact, it might cause accidents. The same principle applies to your running shoes.

Keep yourself motivated

Lastly, always remember why you started running. Is it because you want to lose weight? Is it because you want to live a healthier life? Is it because you want to join a marathon? Whatever your reason may be, always go back to why you involved yourself into running.
