For some reason, some people would like to test their ‘alcohol-capacity’ and they usually end up having a hangover the next day. We all know that it’s not the best feeling in the world, right? There are people who experience headache, diarrhea, and even high blood pressure. And if you have plans for the day, having a hangover is never good. It will be harder for you to concentrate, and at times you will be sensitive to light. So the bigger questions now are…

Or are there better ways to approach it?

Read on to see what can be the better alternatives.

Best way to prevent and cure your hangover

Eat first before your booze

Do not drink with an empty stomach. Make sure that you eat first as foods can help slow down your body in absorbing alcohol.

Drink lots of water

One of the easiest remedies you can do is to drink lots of fluids. If you must know, alcohol promotes urination and if that happens, you might get dehydrated. We understand that nausea can make drinking more challenging but you have to take little sips. Such can help your condition.

In addition, make sure you are drinking water in between alcoholic drinks.

Have some carbohydrates

Alcohol is said to lower down blood sugar levels. If that’s the case, you might experience fatigue and headache. The best solution is to prepare a quick toast and some fresh juice. This should refuel your brain and can cure a number of hangover symptoms.

Eat foods high in potassium

When you drink, you lose potassium. And the best way to resolve that issue is to eat foods like bananas.

Stay away from darker-colored alcoholic drinks

If you really want to drink a lot for the night, you might want to choose clearer alcoholic beverages such as gin and vodka. Studies show that darker-colored alcoholic drinks, compared to light-colored ones, are more powerful in giving one a bad hangover.

Take vitamin B6

A study which was conducted decades ago shows that people who take enough vitamin B6 are unlikely to experience hangovers. However, this is not yet proven as the study was relatively small.

Don’t try the hair of the dog technique

Some people claim that they cured their hangover by taking few sips the next day. That is not advisable and experts believe that you are just delaying the recovery process.

If you really want to take meds, you have to remember few important things. Otherwise, you are putting your entire health in jeopardy.

  • Never take something which has acetaminophen. This is extremely dangerous and may cause liver problems most especially when mixed with alcohol.
  • If you have an upset stomach, you can take Pepto-Bismol.
  • For your headache, you can take ibuprofen. However, you have to be cautious as this may cause an upset stomach.

The bottom line here, just drink moderately. You can always have fun without getting drunk.  Imagine the hassle the next day when you have a hangover. It’s never a good thing.
