Body trends that will make you go “huh?”
Well Being February 19, 2019 Yun Xuan 0

Genetically programmed for continuous evolution, we humans are always striving to be the best we can be.
From medicinal discoveries, architectural wonders, and of course, our pursuit for a flawless body, the evidence is difficult to deny.
This has led to many chances for our natural competitive spirit to emerge, through all kinds of crazy benchmarks.
When it comes to “thinspo” trends (thin + inspiration), the results on social media are endless.
Ridiculous? Yes. Unrealistic? Yes.
So go eat a burger after this. There are better things to obsess about.
1. Thigh gap

If you have a space between your inner thighs when standing with your feet pressed together, you would be are considered slim and beautiful.
And the 1% of people in the world to have that kind of body structure.
Theoretically, you can train for a thigh gap, but there’s no doubt that there are no health benefits associated with it.
Besides, what use would one be?
2. Belly button challenge

There are thousands of people posting images of themselves trying to touch their belly buttons by winding their arm behind their backs.
Apparently, if you’re able to do so, you are deemed fit and healthy.
We’re still trying to see the link here.
3. Paper waist challenge

Originating from China, this challenge calls for women’s waist to be smaller than a piece of A4 paper.
For the record, the length of A4 paper is around 25 inches, which means your waist would have to be reeeeally tiny. Talk about being paper thin.
4. Ab crack

No, it’s not something that appears after you’ve had a good laugh. It refers to the line going down the middle abdomen, between your abs.
Possessing an ab crack is boils down to your muscular formation, and most people train their entire lives without achieving one.
Besides, you cant split your muscles like that – its just impossible to do so.
5. Collarbone challenge

Balancing stacks of coins in the groove of your collarbones has become all the hype. If you can do it, it means that you’re skinny.
The reasoning? The thinner you are, the more pronounced your collarbones will be, and the more coins you can balance.
We’d rather use that money to buy a drink or two.
6. Reverse prayer challenge

Our first thought: that looks uncomfortable.
You’d need to have serious flexibility to be able to get into the pose. Getting out of that position is another issue by itself.
7. Kylie Jenner challenge

This DIY lip-plumping attempt has been warned against by dermatologists.
Inserting your lips into a shot glass and sucking all the air out will not only get you the look of a pufferfish, but also cause pain, swelling, and bruising.
You also risk scarring and disfiguring your lips too. Yikes.
While these may be seen as quirky challenges, its prevalence on social media may promote negative self image and become a trap that we fall into.
As long as you’re eating right and exercising properly, you are already on your way to a better, stronger you.
