Eating is one of the great pleasures of life. However, eating too much may cause one to become overweight, which brings a number of health issues. Yet, there are some foods which can help to burn calories, either by boosting your metabolism, or by helping to burn more calories through digestion than they inherently contain. Read on to find out more!
1. Celery
A stick of celery is made up of mostly water: in fact, only 25% of the entire stick is solid fiber and other roughage. Thus, due to the high water content, the calories you consume is much less than the amount you need to burn to digest the celery. Calorie count aside, the celery is also full of nutrients such as vitamins A, C and K.
2. Grapefruit
Like the celery, the grapefruit is also largely composed of water, with fiber making up the rest of the fruit. Your metabolic rate is boosted if you eat plenty of grapefruit, which means your body will be able to burn calories at a faster rate. Eating grapefruits also helps protect your body against heart disease, due to the pectin it contains.
3. Lettuce and leafy greens
As with the above, the high water content in lettuces and leafy greens help to burn more calories than they contain. Coupled with the abundance in variety, such as spinach, kale and the like, and the other well-documented health benefits of eating leafy green vegetables, it’s a no brainer when it comes to food you should include more in your diet.
4. Watermelons
Watermelons are a tropical favourite of many, especially to ward off the heat on those scorching afternoons. Aside from watermelons, apples, oranges and berries are also great fruits to snack on if you want to burn your calories. As with the previous entries, these fruits contains enough fibers to keep you full for longer, and they are also low in sugars, which is ideal for those looking for a little snack.
