Lose weight: Your New Year’s resolution
Well Being December 29, 2017 Iris Tan 0

Mankind are hard to satisfy. We constantly nitpick at others, and are never satisfied with ourselves. Every new year, we come up with new things to work on, and one of the most common goals we’ve included in our list is probably to lose weight.

However, the overemphasis to shed those few kilos may add on to our mental burden, and backfire on us. While we completely understand why losing weight may be high up on your list, we would like to remind you do everything with moderation and approach this topic with an open mind.
1. Food is food

That plate of tempting smoked salmon is meant for your enjoyment. Fill your stomach with satisfaction instead of constant anxiety to tabulate your calories count. Relying on the numbers to help you make dietary decisions eliminates the happiness of eating, making you bitter and discouraged from keeping up with your weight loss plans. As long as the food you eat is healthy and the portion is moderate, go ahead and indulge!
2. Listen to your body

Do not push your body over its limits. If you’re experiencing abnormal pain of discomfort, it’s time to slow down and assess the problem. Do not sabotage your progress by sustaining an injury that could’ve been avoided.
3. You deserve a treat

Reward your progress by allowing yourself a treat time to time. Craving for some ice cream after a productive week? Go ahead! By giving yourself some leeway, you’re delivering positive reinforcement to your body and mind, allowing you to feel more motivated to work towards your weight loss goals. This also reduces the resentment you may harbor against your diet lifestyle.
4. Don’t be obsessed with the scale

Sure, the scale gives an accurate measurement of your weight, and helps you in keeping track of your progress. However, the scale only factors in your weight, and does not accurately represent other factors. Instead of placing all your reliance on the scale, utilize other forms of measurement for you to assess your slimming progress. For example, try to fit into the jeans which were too tight previously, and see if it’s still as tight as before.
We hope that you achieve your new year’s resolutions in a healthy and patient manner! Happy new year!
