I have to admit, I hate doing housework. I find it time consuming and way too much of a hassle.

However, what if we viewed housework from a different perspective? Besides maintaining our living quarters, housework acts as a form of exercise that effectively burns calories, killing two birds with one stone!
1. Mopping the floor

The amount of floor space you have determines how tedious this chore is. Make the chore worth your efforts by working those arm muscles. Keep your back straight, and maintain a firm grip on the mop, exaggerating every forward and backward movement. After 30 minutes of mopping, you will burn about 145 calories! Make sure you alternate between each arm so both sides get an equal workout.
2. Ironing clothes

Volunteer to iron everyone’s clothes! Ironing trains the upper body, and after straightening your clothes for 30 minutes, you will burn 71 calories! Make sure to keep your back straight, and work those arm muscles as you press the iron down. Also, alternate between your arms so they are worked out equally!
3. Changing the sheets

If you’ve ever tried changing the bedsheets for everyone in the house, you’ll know how tiring it is. Removing and replacing bedsheets, blanket covers, and pillowcases works your core and arm strength, allowing you to burn 130 calories after 30 minutes! That’s equivalent to 12 minutes of jogging on the treadmill!
4. Washing the car

Stop patronizing the car wash when you can burn some calories while you handwash your car! Besides ensuring that you get into every nook and cranny of your car, handwashing your car allows you to give those abdominal and arm muscles a good workout. The repetitive squatting motions when you try to clean your tyres also help to firm up your rear and work those thigh muscles! A 30 minutes carwash burn 143 calories, equivalent to 32 minutes of yoga!
5. Cleaning the toilet
By GIPHY
Probably the most undesirable chore in the house, cleaning the toilet involves scrubbing the bathroom tiles and getting rid of stains on the toilet bowl, activities which works your arms’ biceps and triceps. You’re bound to sweat after 30 minutes of cleaning, burning about 200 calories!
Consider doing housework when you don’t have time to hit the gym! They keep you active in the comfort of your home, and your family will love you for it!
