Last Saturday on the 9th of September, our HealthLoco team went down to the opening address of the B60 run where Desmond Unbelievaboy shares with us some of his tips for running. Let us take a look at them.
Set your goals
Goals are important when running a marathon. It makes sure that you do not give up halfway while training and also makes sure that you are committed to your training.
1. Distance
When training for your run, it is important to set a distance for your run. Goals help to form a road map to success and you will not be able to get near to your potential without setting any goals. Instead of walking out of the door thinking “Today, I am going to run till I am tired”, decide on how far you are going to run. If you are going to run 5km today, you will run 5km today.
Gradually increase the distance of your run and decide where you want to be at the end of the month. This will help you to evaluate your running progress.
2. Time
The same goes for time. Set to complete your run within a certain time. If you plan to finish your 5km run within an hour, finish it up within an hour. This will also help you to evaluate your running progress.
3. Type of training
Make sure to choose the correct training. Your training depends on the type of run that you are going for. For example, if you are going to run a marathon, you should train on your stamina. But, if you are going to run in a race, you should train on your speed.
The lead-up
1. Variation
When training for your run, it is advised to not only stick with running as a form of your training. You should space yourself and explore other workouts and training regime to train for your next marathon or run.
2. Contingency
Always plan for contingency. When training for a run, make sure you plan for days where there could be a contingency. For example, you should plan on days where there is a chance that you have to do overtime work (OT) or days where you have to work late. This way, you will still get to train for your upcoming run without missing any practice.
3. Fun
Of course, the best way to train for your run is to make it as fun as possible. Pair up with a friend or family member to run. You can even challenge them and losers will get to do whatever the winner tells them too. Make it fun and exciting. On a side note, you can also listen to music while running.
Download some pop music to run to. Music can, in fact, help you to run longer.
