According to a source, hundreds of thousands of people in Myanmar’s far west may not be aware of the Coronavirus. This is due to a yearlong internet shutdown. If you must know, the Myanmar government cut internet access across multiple townships as they believe it could result in further clashes between insurgents and the country’s military forces.

Last May, one of the nine townships had its connectivity restored. However, the rest still experience information blackout. The number of total affected people could reach 800,000. If this will continue, it could put their lives in great danger as they do not even know the essential precautions to fight off the virus.

Myanmar and Coronavirus

As of this writing, the country has six recorded deaths and around 292 positive cases. As expected, the majority of the case was found in crowded areas.

In a small community in Myanmar where there are approximately 200 households, some of the residents built bamboo tents that serve as quarantine centers. They also stopped the movement of going in and out of their village. Also, they have designated guards to man their main entry point. According to reports, they need to defend themselves against the virus as they have no access to modern healthcare facilities. This issue is prevalent not only in Myanmar but in other parts of the world. And if not addressed, could lead to further health issues.
