You’ve probably cleaned your closet, your basement, or even attic. But have you tried re-organizing and cleaning your medicine cabinet? We know a lot of people who do not regularly clean this. And while it seems unharmful in most cases, it could be in the long run. Imagine if you accidentally take expired medication. Not a pleasant thought, right?
Cleaning your medicine cabinet
Throw unnecessary items
The first step is to declutter. You might want to remove all the stuff from your medicine cabinet first and identify which can be used, and which can be given or thrown away. A lot of people are guilty about hoarding, and it’s time to change and make room for more important things. Also, you must check the expiration date of all your products.
Don’t forget to wipe off not just your cabinet but every item you’d put back in. Over time, it can accumulate dust and is detrimental, especially for people with lung issues.
Start labelling items
Labelling could be fun and an effective way to organize practically everything. We recommend adding small containers or baskets where you can label them according to your preference. What we do is to mark ours with ‘Eyes,’ ‘Face,’ ‘Teeth,’ so that we can place specific products easily. Some are adding the ‘Kids’ label for children’s vitamins or for other items. Again, there is no specific rule for labelling. You are free to do whatever you want.
Place the regulary used items at the bottom shelf
You should also place your items strategically inside your medicine cabinet. A simple trick is to identify which products do you use regularly. These should be placed at the bottom shelf so you can easily reach it. Those that are less-important or products which your kids should not reach must go to the higher shelves.
Use magnet strips
If you keep your tweezers, nail cutters, and small scissors in your medicine cabinet, we recommend using magnet strips to save space.
Add a note board
You can also add a board using the inside of your medicine cabinet. It’s perfect so that you can easily write important notes and reminders. Some are adding cork boards or using chalkboard paint. If you need to place a chart if you have regular medications, that can help too. Make sure that other people can see it in case of an emergency.
Have a clear display
If you want to force yourself to have a clean and organized medicine cabinet, opt for a clear display. This should push you to only store necessary items. Plus, you are compelled to remove ones that you don’t use.
You can also add some cute details to your small cabinet. This is not necessary but could be an excellent idea. Splash some colors or fun stickers if you want to. These will make your morning or night routine even better.
