According to WHO, the spraying of disinfectants on the streets are not effective, and in fact, can be harmful to one’s health. It is said that this method is not recommended to kill the coronavirus because the disinfectant is inactivated by debris and dirt.

In some areas, spraying individuals with disinfectant was practiced. However, it could have psychological or physical effects. It can lead to skin and eye irritation. It could also cause gastrointestinal issues and bronchospasm.

As for the surfaces at home, you need to soak your cloth in disinfectant before application. Direct spraying might not be as effective too. It is encouraged that for surfaces, you should use water and soap before disinfecting the area.

As always, be on the lookout for health protocols given by experts. We’ve seen a lot of recommendations on how to stay safe during the pandemic. While the intent is just to help more people, we must also understand the side effects of all our actions.

What types of disinfectant should you use?

There are a number of EPA-approved disinfectants you can use for your home. Here are some of them:

  • Mikro-Quat
  • Wexford Disinfectant Wipes
  • Glyclean Hand Surface Cleaner

Tips stay safe during the pandemic

Below are a few guidelines on how you can protect yourself during this health crisis.

Wash your hands

We couldn’t stress this enough but you have to wash your hands thoroughly. By this, we mean that you need to allot at least 20 seconds of wash time, most especially if you went outside.

If in case you can’t wash your hands right away, always have a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Make sure that your entire hands are covered and rub it until your hands are dry. And please, avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes if you haven’t washed your hands yet.

Proper social distancing

In some parts of the world, proper social distancing isn’t observed. Remember, you need to be at least 6 feet away from one another.

We understand that we all miss our families and friends, but now is not the time to go out or have special gatherings. Let’s maintain social activities online. The more that we do not follow the protocol, the longer we will have to endure shelter-in-place.

Wear a mask

Even if you don’t feel sick, it is necessary that you wear a face cover or a mask. This is recommended if you need to go out and get some groceries or buy some necessities.

Don’t forget your mental health

Your physical health is, of course, our priority. But don’t forget your mental health as well. A lot of experts have now warned people about the effects of this pandemic. While the mental effects are not visible right now, it could happen in a few months time. Make sure that you are exerting effort to take care of your mental state. Keep in touch with the people you love and stay away from fake news that will just stir up panic.
