Researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston shared that having physical activities can positively affect the risk of depression. They have studied and recorded data from 8,000 participants.
Exercise and depression
From the data, it was found out that people with high genetic risk of depression are also likely to be diagnosed with the condition. However, people who are physically active and continuously exercise are unlikely to experience depression, even if they have high depression risk score.
How long should we exercise per day
According to experts, we should exercise at least 35 minutes per day to fight off depression. Looking at it, 35 minutes isn’t really a long time. You can definitely squeeze it into your schedule. Maybe you can have a quick jog after work. Or perhaps, walk your way to the office.
There should be no excuse for not being physically active. It’s really your choice. It doesn’t matter whether you want an intense workout or would like to have a more relaxing activity like yoga. Everything counts.
It was also shared that for a four-hour physical activity per week, depressive episodes dropped by 17%.
