If you have squeezed in some time to workout, we congratulate you! Not everyone is determined to make time for physical activities given all their responsibilities at work and at home. But when you are done with your training, do you know what you have to do? Or do you just immediately change into your clothes and do your errands? Well, this post will help you understand what needs to be done after your exercise.
What are the post-workout activities you should do?
Don’t forget to cool down
After an intense training and you suddenly stopped, expect to feel a bit dizzy. The quick explanation here is that when you exercise, your body’s temperature rises up and it needs to calm down. That is why you have to ‘cool down’. If you are using a treadmill then make sure to change its settings to a slower pace. Or if you are running, try to walk before going on a full stop. And don’t forget to stretch as well.
Obviously, we lose a lot of water when we exercise. You have to replace it to help your muscle flexibility. This can also avoid muscle soreness. There is no need for you to get sports drinks unless you are really training strong and hard. And just to let you know, sports drinks have a lot of unwanted calories. So yes, water is still our bestfriend.
Take a cold shower after
A cold shower will do you good. With this, you can avoid muscle inflammation. There is no need to use ice-cold water like what other athletes do. Just make sure to lower your shower temperature a bit and you are all good.
Don’t go out all sweaty!
Again, we understand that you have a lot of things to accomplish. However, it is a mortal sin not to change your sweaty clothes after working out. You see, sweaty clothes can be a breeding ground for bacteria. Instead of getting fit and healthy, you might end up with some rashes and skin infection.
Choose a good and healthy snack
Perhaps, you want to treat yourself for a huge burger or a delicious slice of cheesecake after training. While you can do it once in a while, don’t make it a habit. Instead, carefully choose healthy snacks that will keep you full and satisfied. You can go with non-fat Greek yogurt or whole grain waffles. Thinking of having protein bars? Think again. These products might contain a lot of sugar which your body doesn’t need.
Don’t overdo it
Let’s just say that you trained so hard today. Will you do the same routine the next day? A BIG NO. Don’t force yourself to do the same thing tomorrow because it will take a toll on your health. Give your body a rest because it needs to recover as well. You can still exercise but go for lighter routines.
