In this world where most people are engaged in physical activities to stay fit, it is with high importance that you take care of your eyes too. Some are already doing it and that’s good. However, a lot of people forget that our eyes need the same attention as the rest of our body. So how do we do it? This post will help you on how to take care of your eyes.
How do you take care of your eyes?
Just so you know, taking care of your eyes doesn’t have to be complicated. In fact, most of our tips are easy to follow.
Exercise your eyes
There are a number of eye exercises that you can do but our favorite is the 20-20-20 rule. How do you do it? Here’s an easy to follow guide.
If you are using a computer:
- Look away after every 20 minutes.
- Look at an object which is 20 feet away.
- Blink for 20 times.
You can also try walking 20 steps as this can help your blood circulation.
Stay away from rubbing your eyes
So, your eyes got itchy right? Our immediate response is to rub it right away. But remember that our hands are filled with germs, dust, and all sorts of bacteria. It can easily be transferred to your eyes when we rub it. Be more conscious and if this is already a habit – break it right away.
Don’t forget to wash your hands regularly in cases that you can’t control rubbing your eyes.
Make it a habit to protect your eyes from the sun
It’s time to get those sunglasses out. Exposure to sun’s UV rays can be very damaging to one’s eyes. If you have UV-protected contact lenses and eyeglasses, these should do you good. Plus, don’t forget to wear your visors and caps for added protection. Lastly, wear protective eye gear depending on your activity.
Properly position your computer monitor
Your computer should be positioned an arm’s length away from you. Also, you have to ensure that your light’s brightness is just enough – meaning not too bright and not too dim. Consider these for your office or home office so that your eyes will not be strained if you need to work for hours.
Check your eye makeup
If you are regularly using makeup, it is important that you choose a brand that does not cause an allergic reaction. Don’t hesitate to throw products which do not sit well with your eyes. Or if you have a friend that can use it and does not get eye irritation, just give it to them. And remember to clean your eye makeup brushes as it builds bacteria too.
Just clean up
Yes, your environment can affect your eye health. If you are living in a space where dust and dirt are rampant, your eyes are more prone to irritation. Make it a habit to clean and again, don’t forget to wear protective gears in doing so.
Eat nutritious food
Eat foods high in Vitamins C, A, E, Omega-3 Lycopene, Lutein, and Beta-carotene. And of course, don’t forget to hydrate.
