Last Monday, fishermen have recovered around 40 bricks of suspected cocaine amounting to more or less PHP212 million on the seashore of the Pacific ocean facing Surigao del Norte, Philippines. It was reported that the bricks were found floating two kilometers away from the shoreline. It had ‘3B Bugatti’ markings which were the same markings found on the packaging discovered last February.
In the Philippines, there is an alarming rate of people who use drugs. And in fact, the government has implemented different tactics (mostly controversial ways) to stop it.
But in this post, what we want is to educate more readers on the effects of cocaine.
What is cocaine?
Cocaine is known as a very powerful addictive stimulant drug. There are different ways users administer cocaine. It can be orally, intravenously, or by inhalation. Those who dissolve cocaine in water and injects it are said to experience heightened effects.
What are the short-term effects of cocaine?
With just a single dose, one could already feel the effects of cocaine. Below are some of the common ones:
- mentally alert
- hypersensitive to light, sound, and even touch
- some users can finish tasks quickly while it has an opposite effect on others
- increased body temperature
- increased heart rate
- increased blood pressure
What are the long-term effects of cocaine?
Long-time users might experience the following:
- lack of sleep
- loss of appetite
- can become psychotic
- losing interest in other things
- suicidal tendencies
While cocaine might cause intense high, this is just short-lived. It might even lead to violent behavior. There are also a number of complications that might happen to users of cocaine. It includes neurological effects, gastrointestinal complications, and cardiovascular effects.
Cocaine and domestic violence
Since cocaine can lead to violent behavior, domestic abuse is also possible. If you are living with someone who’s seemingly addicted to cocaine and physically abuses you, here are some things you need to consider:
Think about yourself
No matter how hard it is to leave a loved one, you have to save yourself first. Don’t let them hurt you as it can even lead to death. In addition, better reach out to the authorities.
Look for support
Talk to someone you trust about your situation. Never isolate yourself and if you can already talk to professionals, then please do so. They would be able to give you a more streamlined strategy on how you can get out of the situation. And remember, domestic violence isn’t just about physical abuse. It also targets your mental and emotional health. Thus, an expert is necessary.
How to help people addicted to cocaine?
Truth be told, telling a cocaine addict to stop will not usually work. Remember, addicts will get better if they want to and not when they are told to. The best thing you can do is to make it extremely hard for them to access cocaine.
- Do not give money as they most likely will use it to purchase drugs
- Do not let them stay in your house just to continue using drugs
